In addition to adding new parking spaces at several major stand locations, Target plans to expand its current retail operation. In mid-March the retailer plans to add one of two existing location types: its current Target Center at 5500 Broadway at the corner of 15th and Broadway in Northwest Chicago. The two locations, which could also serve up to 500 shoppers per location, would complement existing locations in the former Target location, which was converted to the New Target store. The Target Center, which will feature an outdoor stage, is located within a former Target store.
The retail center will serve about 400 shoppers.
In May, Target plans to open a new stand at 1701 W. Michigan St. in the former Sears space at 34th and University avenues. The planned location offers an array of upscale clothing brands, including Gap, Gucci and H&M.
The stand has also been confirmed for its long-planned expansion. In 2013 Target added about 100 new footages to the building to build anticipation of their arrival.
In July, Target plans to open a new stand at 2800 N. Clark Street in West Midtown’s former Target space at 33rd and West.
Target hopes to open the new stand by next month, but the plans will be subject to the approval of a zoning board.
Earlier this week Target announced that it would begin renovating the existing Target store at the former former Sears location at the corner of 34th and University avenues in Southwest Chicago to accommodate its anticipated new store. The redesign of the building, which the store said could be finished in 2015, will include new lighting and the addition of a “shaded roof for a more natural aesthetic.”
